NewKaliningrad.ru reports the scheduled opening of the Yantarnaya gaming zone’s first gaming facility, situated in the westernmost region of Kaliningrad, a seaport city located between Poland and Lithuania along the Baltic Coast.
Originally slated to open by September 1, 2015, the two-story Magic Crystal Casino in the Amberland resort development with 150 slot machines was postponed for six months. The gaming facility’s new official opening date has been scheduled for April 24, 2016.
Alexandr Dmitrochenko is the CEO of the Moscow-based Neverland, the owner of the new property. Dmitrochenko, who claims to have had previous involvement in the gaming industry, said that Neverland plans to complete the second stage of construction by the year’s end. He also claimed at that point the number of slot machines would increase to 500 and that they are new and made in Austria, according to Asia Gaming Brief.
A license to organize games of fortune was obtained by Neverland earlier this month. It was signed by Kaliningrad Region Economy Minister, Anastasia Kuznetsova. According to Kuznetsova, two other projects are being implemented in the zone. One of the projects is a multi-purpose complex, which involves casino halls, restaurants, and bars, etc. And the second is a hotel, with construction expected to begin in the middle of May sometime.
The Yantarnaya gaming zone is one of five special integrated gambling zones authorized in the country that banned casinos in 2009. The first of the zones to open an integrated resort casino was the Primorye Integrated Economic Zone (PIEZ) located near Vladivostok, in the Far East.
Amberland is to become a tourist and recreational area with a significant gambling component. In addition to casinos and their attendant amenities, there will also be diverse facilities for family recreation and entertainment. The project will be the central tourism hub for the territory, perhaps the most interesting of Russia’s six gambling zones for European visitors.
